What does it take to build a school that not only performs today, but prepares young people to lead tomorrow?
In June, the African Leadership University’s Centre for Higher Education (ALCHE) partnered with the LAIT Africa Foundation to deliver “Leading for Legacy: Building High Performing Schools,” an Executive Leadership Workshop for more than 30 school leaders and founders from Nigeria.
Across a day and a half, participants explored how purposeful leadership, innovation and strong organisational cultures can shape the future of education. Through hands-on exercises, role-plays and conversations with facilitators and visiting experts, school leaders were challenged to examine their own leadership practices and consider how they could strengthen the institutions they lead.
The experience culminated in each participant developing a personalized Leadership Blueprint, designed to turn the workshop’s lessons into practical actions they could take back to their schools.
For Ewere Akwukwaegbu, Executive Director of Wellspring College, the workshop was ultimately about preparing schools for what comes next.
“I hope five years from now, Wellspring College can say as a school that we are ready to grow future-ready leaders.”
The collaboration reflects ALCHE’s broader commitment to developing leaders capable of transforming education across Africa. It also strengthened connections between ALCHE, ALU and schools in Nigeria, creating opportunities for continued collaboration across the continent.
By investing in the people shaping schools today, the workshop offered a simple proposition: building the next generation of African leaders begins with equipping the leaders responsible for their education.
